LibrePilot开源项目成立于2015年7月。它侧重于用于各种应用的软硬件的研究与开发应用包括车辆控制和稳定、无人驾驶汽车和机器人。该项目的主要目标之一是提供一个开放的协作环境使其成为开发的理想家园创新理念。
LibrePilot欢迎并鼓励与其他人交流与合作项目，例如添加对现有硬件或软件的支持开源精神下的协作。
LibrePilot源于OpenPilot项目和创始成员他们都是该项目的长期贡献者。
LibrePilot项目将由一个成员委员会通过双方同意的方式进行管理制定重要决策和确定总体方向的方法项目。
